building the hull Accessories The "sailplan" "taping" the sail launcher

At this Site youīll find many pictures and informations about building a plywood sailboat with all the necessary accessories and about making cheap sails from polytarp taped with carpet tape. I write also about used materials and techniques and my own very subjective experiences as a first time garage boat builder.

How To Use This Site?

The Yellow Link Bars on the top and downside of each page get you to the main pages of this site. The NOT Coloured Link Bars underneath the top yellow link bars get you to the main subjects of each page you are just on.

From the Index Page you can reach all main subjects of every page of this site directly. You will see the last update and which subjects were updated on the index page too. Itīs a good idea to look for an update here and using the index page as a switching and entry point.

Using - or at least taking a peak on - the Link Page would be a good idea too, itīs not only just links. Itīs about informations, the first time hobby boatbuilder needs, when searching for his project in an organized manner. Youīll find there links to how toīs, discussions, vendors, other hobby-projects along with some search forms and search links fitting for this reason.

The Author

As a hobby wood worker I donīt have two left hands. But I donīt had knowleadge about plywood boatbuilding when starting the project of building the V12 sailing dinghy. Donīt see me as an expert now, rather as an example that it is possible to get a working sailboat whithout experience in boatbuilding techniques.

I did build the boat in 1999/2000 while living in the United States, so my experience comes from using American materials. I donīt know much about German boatbuilding materials.

As youīll see, I like to build my homepage too. But I donīt intend to make money with it.

Posting a mail to the author

Some nice guys think, they should send me *exe-, *bat-, *pif-files per email without asking. Therefore I decided to change my email address from time to time and make automatic address reading a bit harder. So it is also harder for you, if you want to send me an email. You have to cut out the red part of the address, when you write or paste it. Please donīt store it in your mail-program since it will be changed again. Donīt send emails other than in text-format, I donīt read them, not even html.

This is the address you can reach me now: nd@solar-pleasecutoutthere-thruster-sailor.info
As long as I am willing to provide an email-address at all, you will find it here.

Dear reader, despite all those above up-piled obstacles I would be happy, to read your email, as long it is positive feedback or constructive criticism.

Data Safety?

I donīt use cookies, scripts, plug ins and other techniques which are are prone to identify your identity without your consense or put the security of your computer at risk. I donīt have influence on my provider
1&1 Puretec who should have his own privacy rules. But on this site you can let your java, javascript, vb-script switched off. You donīt need it.

Dinghy Sailing

My sailing dinghy in action made from plywood and epoxy, the sail made out of polytarp "taped" with carpet tape. This is the second of 3 sails I made.

Curious about building this plywood boat? You are invited to share my experiences with the building process. :-)

Solar Sail

I couldnīt deny to myself a hint to my other website solar-thruster-sailor.info.

The Solar-Thruster-Sailor (STS) is a space craft, which is able to move in space with the help of sunlight pressure similar to a sailboat. Even some sort of tacking is possible.

It is a solar sail and a net of carbon fibre belts inside a ring of lightweight carbon pipes resembling a disk like an UFO. The pipe ring is mounting for solar sail, payload net and (ion) thrusters at the same time. The combination of solar sail and thruster steering which makes it possible to use thrusters as second means of propulsion on a solar sail, resembles a motor sail boat.

In contrast to the now in 2003 planned solar sail missions this new kind of solar sail supported through a net of belts could use itīs entire area to take on payload. This would make it possible to use free energy for space transportation - like a sailboat! The lightweight outer ring of pipes with the belt net unlashes those sail boat advantages in an appreciable scope.
